Former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer Called “Garbage” At Book Tour Event

On Wednesday, while promoting his new book at a New York City Barnes & Nobles book store, former White House press secretary Sean Spicer was heckled and called “a real piece of garbage,” The Huffington Post reported.

“Hey Sean, you’re a real piece of garbage and I hope you look around and see all these empty seats,” an unidentified man shouted and interrupts a line of questioning from the event’s moderator. “And I hope you realize in even in New York City, people will not come and pay money to hear you speak.” The comments sparked an uproar among others at the event and the man was quickly escorted from the building.

“It’s a garbage book and you’re a garbage person,” the heckler shouted at the end of the video. “You lied as press secretary. Now you’re lying in your book.”

Spicer was promoting his new book, The Briefing: Politics, The Press and the President, which was released on Tuesday. The former Trump aide details his tenure as press secretary in the memoir, describing Trump as a “a unicorn, riding a unicorn over a rainbow.”

It’s been a rough week for the former White House official. Book sales have been slow, and ABC’s White House correspondent Jonathan Karl published a scathingly negative review of the book in The Wall Street Journal. “Mr. Spicer’s book is much like his tenure as press secretary: short, littered with inaccuracies and offering up one consistent theme: Mr. Trump can do no wrong,” Karl wrote.

On Tuesday, BBC host Emily Maitlis also criticized Spicer and grilled him about working for President Donald Trump, including the infamous lie about his boss’ inauguration crowd size.

“It was the start of the most corrosive culture,” Maitlis said during the interview. “You played with the truth. You led us down a dangerous path. You have corrupted discourse for the entire world by going along with these lies.”
