Former White House chief of staff John Kelly has joined the board of a company that runs the largest shelter for unaccompanied migrant children in the country, CBS News reports.
On Friday, Kelly joined the board of Caliburn International, the parent company of Comprehensive Health Services, which operates a shelter for migrant children in Florida and Texas.
Kelly’s roles in President Donald Trump‘s administration helped implement restrictionist immigration policies – first as head of the Department of Homeland Security, then as White House chief of staff.
Kelly has made several negative remarks regarding immigrants, including stating that those who come into the U.S. illegally are “not people that would easily assimilate into the United States, into our modern society.” In March 2017, Kelly suggested that separating families could deter illegal immigration, leading to the implementation of such a policy but the eventual abandonment of it as courts stepped in.
