Following A.G.’s Report, Biden Says Cuomo Should Resign

On Tuesday, President Joe Biden stated that Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-New York) should resign after the New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) released a report charging that the governor sexually harassed at least 11 women in his workplace.

In March, Biden told reporters that Cuomo should step down if New York state’s investigations found him guilty of sexual harassment.

“I think he should resign,” Biden said Tuesday. “What I said is if the attorney general concluded the allegations are correct in March, that I would recommend he resign. That’s what I’m doing today.”

Following the report, dozens of Cuomo’s Democratic counterparts are also calling for his resignation from the gubernatorial position.

“The New York State Attorney General has conducted an independent, thorough and professional investigation that found the Governor violated state and federal law, had a pattern of sexually harassing current and former employees, retaliated against at least one of the accusers and created a hostile work environment,” the Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-New York) and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-New York) said in a joint statement. “No elected official is above the law. The people of New York deserve better leadership in the Governor’s office. We continue to believe that the Governor should resign.”

Dozens of other Democrats have warned Cuomo that the New York Assembly will impeach him if he does not resign himself.

Cuomo, however, is still denying all of the accusations. In a statement after James’ briefing Tuesday, Cuomo insisted he had no plans to resign or plead guilty.

“I never touched anyone inappropriately or made inappropriate sexual advances,” the governor said. “I welcome the opportunity for a full and fair review before a jury.”
