Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis To Sign Executive Order Banning Vaccine Passports

Days after a massive crowd in Miami Beach had a super-spreader outdoor party, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) said he will issue an executive order banning vaccine passports in the state.

“We are not supporting doing any vaccine passports in the state of Florida,” DeSantis said in a press conference on Monday. “It’s completely unacceptable for either the government or the private sector to impose upon you the requirement that you show proof of vaccine to just simply be able to participate in normal society.”

“You want to go to a movie theater. Should you have to show that? No. You want to go to a game, should you have to show that? No. You want to go to a theme park? No. We’re not supportive of that,” the governor added.

DeSantis’ comments come days after the European Commission proposed a vaccine passport system for its 27 member countries that would allow vaccinated people to move more freely. A similar system is already in Israel allows those with “green passes,” given after full vaccination, which allow exclusive access to gyms, hotels, concerts and theaters as long as social distancing and other COVID-19 precautions are maintained. Recently, Israel opened indoor dining to green pass holders.
