Eric Adams Wins Democratic Nomination For New York City Mayor

Eric Adams has officially been declared the winner of the Democratic primary for the New York City mayoral race. Adams will be facing off against Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa in November. With the city overwhelmingly Democratic, Adams is the odds-on favorite.

Adams, who was the most moderate and pro-police candidate in the field, released a statement after being declared the winner by several media organizations: “While there are still some very small amounts of votes to be counted, the results are clear: An historic, diverse, five-borough coalition led by working-class New Yorkers has led us to victory in the Democratic primary for mayor of New York City.”

Candidate Andrew Yang took to Twitter to congratulate his opponent.

Many news outlets have noted that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez’s influence might be waning following this election. Ocasio Cortez, who endorsed third-place finisher Maya Wiley, has not commented on the elections’ results.

In recent days, Adams has begun to announce his priorities if elected mayor. “I’m going to unify our party here in the city, and we’re going to show this entire country how to run cities in a correct way,” he said.

This election has also called into question the competence of the New York Board of Elections after it mistakenly counted 135,000 test ballots.
