Donald Trump Says He Would ‘Absolutely’ Invite Kim Jong-un To White House

Following the Singapore summit between United States President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, the president has had some very positive things to say about Kim, including a possible invitation to the White House.

Trump emerged from his meeting with the North Korean leader saying the two had developed “a very special bond.” He said that he will “absolutely” invite Kim to the White House and that he expected the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula to commence “very quickly.”

The two leaders signed a document at the end of their meeting with the United States promising “security guarantee” and North Korea promising to follow through with plans of nuclear disarmament. However, the document was vague and did not give a timeline or a way to hold North Korea accountable. Despite those criticisms, Trump said, “People are going to be very impressed and people are going to be very happy and we are going to take care of a very dangerous problem for the world.”

The summit, “special bond” and Trump’s “absolute” invitation to have Kim join him in the White House is a far cry from the jabs the two had exchanged on Twitter just months before. Trump went from calling Kim Jong-un “little rocket man” to saying that “he’s a very talented man” who “loves his country very much,” a particularly odd sentiment considering North Korea has a history of starving its citizens.

Among other fond sentiments toward the North Korean leader, Trump also gave him real estate advice. He encouraged Kim to abandon his nuclear endeavors and instead build condos on North Korea’s beaches to boost the economy.
