This week, President Donald Trump took to Twitter to reiterate his belief that climate change is not a legitimate concern, referencing a report he watched on Fox & Friends. In his tweet, Trump cites Patrick Moore, alleged co-founder of Greenpeace, who contests the “climate crisis is not only Fake News, it’s Fake Science.”
Greenpeace, however, has lambasted Moore’s claims, noting he was not one of the organization’s founders (although he did have “a significant role in Greenpeace Canada for several years”) and that he is not an environmental expert. Greenpeace also asserts that Moore is no longer associated with Greenpeace and does not represent the organization or its stances.

Speaking in a statement, Greenpeace said, “Patrick Moore often misrepresents himself in the media as an environmental ‘expert’ or even an ‘environmentalist,’ while offering anti-environmental opinions on a wide range of issues and taking a distinctly anti-environmental stance. He also exploits long-gone ties with Greenpeace to sell himself as a speaker and pro-corporate spokesperson, usually taking positions that Greenpeace opposes.”

Aside from Trump’s claims about Moore, his stance that global warming isn’t a real issue contradicts his government’s, which issued a report stating it is “intensifying across the country.” When asked about the report last November, Trump said he doesn’t believe it. “Right now we’re at the cleanest we’ve ever been and that’s very important to me. But if we’re clean, but every other place on Earth is dirty, that’s not so good, so I want clean air, I want clean water, very important.”
