Donald Trump Renews Border Wall Promise, Mexico’s President Peña Nieto Fires Back

Donald Trump‘s signature promise to his voter base when he first announced he was running for president was a border wall that would divide the United States and Mexico. Thus far, his wall has yet to materialize, but Trump renewed his vow to construct it on a campaign rally on Tuesday.

As with many of Trump’s rallies, his recent visit to Nashville, Tennessee, revisited many of his common talking points from the 2016 election, from Hillary Clinton to his wall. And Trump not only insisted this wall would be built, he again boasted that Mexico would foot the bill.

Trump’s Mexican counterpart Enrique Peña Nieto immediately took to Twitter to respond, tweeting his dismissal in both his native tongue and English:

As Nieto refuses to foot the bill, the United States citizens would need to do so instead. Tennessee Rep. Diane Black recently proposed a “border wall trust fund” where citizens could donate money to help construct it.
