Donald Trump Jr. received backlash on social media after praising a joke mocking the attack on Paul Pelosi, the husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California).

The son of former President Donald Trump shared a picture of a hammer on top of a pair of men’s underwear with the caption: “Got my Paul Pelosi Halloween costume ready.”

Trump Jr. followed up on the post with another tasteless jab at Hunter Biden.

Last Friday, suspect David DePape broke into the Pelosis home in San Francisco and attacked Paul Pelosi, who is 82 years old, with a hammer.

DePape allegedly asked, “Where is Nancy?”

The D.A. says that the incident was fueled by political hate.

The picture shared by Trump Jr. is a reference to the hammer used in the attack.

The underwear appears to be a reference to a conspiracy theory that Pelosi was wearing his underwear when the police arrived at the scene, falsely suggesting that he and DePape are gay lovers.

Police have said that there is “no evidence” backing that claim.

Initial media reports that accounted Pelosi was in his underwear when he was assisted by the police also corrected that information.

“There is absolutely no evidence that Mr. Pelosi knew this man,” San Francisco Police Chief William Scott said. “As a matter of fact, the evidence indicates the exact opposite.”

The theory gained popularity after it was tweeted by billionaire and Twitter’s new owner Elon Musk, who later deleted the post.

Trump Jr.’s post received over 11,000 comments, many of them criticizing him for making fun of a serious situation.

One user said, “You think this is funny? He’s 82 and nearly died. And you guys wonder why the GOP are seen as hateful and cruel.”

Another one added that the joke was disrespectful regardless of Pelosi’s politics.

“I might not agree with Nancy’s politics but to make fun of a political figure’s spouse being attacked with a hammer and almost murdered?” another user wrote. “Imagine if that was your wife? How would you like it for people who disagree with your politics to make jokes about attempted murder?”
