Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Florida) called speculation on whether he would make a bid for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination “nonsense.”
“All the speculation about me is purely manufactured,” said DeSantis during a press conference he held to praise a COVID-19 treatment unit in St. Cloud, Florida. “I just do my job, and we work hard… I hear all this stuff, and honestly, it’s nonsense.”
In April, former President Donald Trump said he would consider DeSantis as his vice president if he were to seek another term at the White House after he lost the 2020 race by seven million votes.
DeSantis’ political action committee has already collected more than $40 million for his 2022 reelection bid since the beginning of the year.

In the past few months, DeSantis has traveled to California, Utah, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Indiana and Texas in order to fundraise.
However, those trips have brought controversy as Florida has recorded a substantial rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in the past few months.
Despite the dire COVID situation, DeSantis recently appealed a judge’s ruling blocking the governor’s order to school officials not to impose strict mask mandates in their districts in an effort to block the spread of the COVID-19.
A recent poll suggested that DeSantis’ net approval rating in Florida had dropped 14 points between July and August.
