Capitol Police Prepare For Potential Violence New Trump Supporter Rally On Sept. 18

The Capitol Police are boosting security and training to prepare for a potential violent rally scheduled on September 18.

According to an internal memo reported on Wednesday, former President Donald Trump‘s supporters will show up in support of rioters arrested after the deadly January 6 Capitol riot. The Capitol Police also released a statement confirming that the agency is prepared for the potential of a violent riot next week.

“We have a robust security posture planned for September 18,” the Capitol Police statement said. “All available staff will be working.”

Since the January 6 riot, the Capitol Police have been working on improving the security around the Capitol area so as not to repeat the tragic events of January. In July, the Capitol Police announced plans to give advanced instructions for rank-and-file officers and Congress members.

“Externally, USCP leadership has increased intelligence sharing and collaboration between all of our local, state and federal law enforcement partners as well [as] increased our partnership within the intelligence community and Congressional stakeholders,” the department said in the update in July.

Last month, Capitol Police officially cleared an officer who fatally shot Ashli Babbitt during the Capitol riot on January 6 following an internal probe.

Weeks after, Lt. Michael Byrd, a Capitol Police officer, told NBC News that he was the officer who shot Babbitt on January 6. Since his interview, Byrd said he has suffered from death threats from right-wing extremists.
