Kentucky’s Democratic Attorney General Andy Beshear defeated incumbent GOP Gov. Matt Bevin in the state’s governor’s race on Tuesday night by about 6,000 votes in a tight race. Bevin, who was among the most unpopular governors in the country, lost in a state that went for President Donald Trump by over 30% in 2016. Turnout surged by nearly 50% compared with the last governor’s race four years ago. Bevin had worked tirelessly to repeal the Medicaid that was implemented in Kentucky under Obamacare by Beshear’s father the former governor, Andy Beshear.
