Former President Donald Trump praised the January 6 Capitol rioters calling them “patriots” whose goals have been to “save” the nation’s democracy.

Following Trump’s speech on Jan. 6, insurrectionists invaded the Capitol seeking to overturn the election and disrupt the Electoral College count. “Love was in the air,” Trump said of the rally on Fox News Business.

Trump questioned why there has not been outrage regarding the fatal shooting of rioter Ashli Babbitt. The former president has previously called for the release of the name of the officer who shot her.

Babbitt was also an Air Force veteran. She was shot as she climbed through a broken window trying to attack the U.S. House chamber. Other Trump supporters call Babbitt’s death “an execution.”

“Who is the person who shot an innocent, wonderful, incredible woman, a military woman, right in the head?” Trump asked. “There is no repercussion that if this were on the other side, it would be the biggest story in this country. Who shot Ashli Babbitt? People want to know and why.”

Trump claimed that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was one of those responsible for any violence because she and her fellow Democrats did not do enough to protect the Capitol.
