New York’s Attorney General Elect Letita James To Launch All Encompassing Trump Organization & Trump Foundation Probes

New York’s Attorney General elect Letita James is threatening to multiply President Donald Trump’s legal woes, as she plans to launch a series of investigations into the president’s family and business dealings once she takes office in January.

“We want to investigate anyone in his orbit who has, in fact, violated the law,” James told NBC News on Wednesday. “We will use every area of the law to investigate President Trump and his business transactions and that of his family as well.”

James set out an outline of possible probes she intends to launch come January.

They including an investigation into Trump’s personal real estate business dealings, possible violations of the Emoluments Clause committed by President Trump during the election, and a probe of the now infamous June 2016 Trump Tower meeting.

In connection to these investigations, James intends on helping pass a bill that would alter the state’s double jeopardy laws in order to prevent the president from pardoning individuals who committed alleged crimes in New York from federal charges.

“I think within the first 100 days this bill will be passed,” James told NBC News. “It is a priority because I have concerns with respect to the possibility that this administration might pardon some individuals who might face some criminal charges, but I do not want them to be immune from state charges.”

Under the current New York State laws, James could be prevented from bringing up state charges against such individuals if the president clears them of federal offenses.

James, a Democrat, won her race for New York’s Attorney General in November after securing then-incumbent Governor Andrew Cuomo’s endorsement. She is set to replace Barbara Underwood, who was appointed to the position following Eric Schneiderman’s unceremonious departure from the office, as the state’s leading law enforcement official next month.
