GOP Sen. Ted Cruz & Rep. Paul Gosar Self-Quarantine After Coronavirus Exposure At CPAC

Reps. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Paul Gosar (R-Arizona) said they would both self-quarantine after it was announced that an attendee at last month’s Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) was diagnosed with the coronavirus (COVID-19) virus.

In a statement made on Sunday, Cruz said he interacted with the attendee at the conference with a short conversation and handshake. However, he said that “out of an abundance of caution” he would self-quarantine in his home in Texas.

Gosar also announced he would self-quarantine after attending the conference. In a statement, he said, “I was with the individual for an extended period of time, and we shook hands several times.”

The American Conservative Union, the organization that hosts the CPAC annually said the attendee was exposed to the COVID-19 virus before the conference and tested positive this Saturday.

Medical experts familiar with the virus said that those who have interacted with either senator within the past 10 days should be cautious about a possible transmission.

The attendee, although interacting with various senators, did not interact with President Donald Trump or Vice President Mike Pence. The attendee was reportedly never in the same events. The attendee has been quarantined in New Jersey.

Other public figures who’ve interacted with the attendee include Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao and Labor Secretary Eugene Scalia. Jared Kushner and Donald Trump Jr. were also present.

Despite this, the self-described germaphobe president said he was “not concerned at all” of the virus reaching the White House, and said he has no plans of stopping his campaign rallies due to the virus.

“We’re going to have tremendous rallies,” he told reporters this weekend.
