The Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) tweeted – and deleted – a pro-Russia tweet that called Ukraine land illegally seized by Russia “Ukrainian-occupied territories,” which seemingly insinuated that the land rightfully belonged to Russia.
The tweet continued on to denounce Democrats and President Joe Biden for continuing to send taxpayer dollars to help Ukraine, “Meanwhile, we are under attack at our southern border. When will Democrats put #AmericaFirst and end the gift-giving to Ukraine?”
The tweet, which also included a photo of a Russian flag, was up from Friday morning until Saturday. CPAC later backtracked on the tweet, saying it had never been approved, and deletion had been delayed because of CPAC’s conference in Australia.
“Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine must be repelled,” CPAC said in a statement. “Putin is a madman that is putting millions of lives at risk with his loose talk of nuclear war. We must oppose Putin, but American taxpayers should not be shouldering the vast majority of the cost.”

Russia launched an attack on Ukraine in February. Though they have a smaller military, they have been able to keep Russia at bay by using better battlefield tactics and weapons. Ukraine has also been helped as much of the West has stacked support behind Ukraine. The U.S. has sent around $16.9 billion in aid to Ukraine since January, according to the Defense Department.
The Kremlin continues its attack on Ukraine. At the end of September, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced his decision to mobilize around 300,000 reservists, which is the first time the country did that since World War II. He also threatened the West with nuclear war.
