Comparing Himself To George Washington, Trump Calls For An Investigation Of The Obamas’ Netflix Deal

President Donald Trump has compared his effort to hold the G-7 Summit at his Doral resort in Miami to former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama’s film production deal with Netflix. According to Trump, this is an example of how the former president enriched himself. However, the Netflix deal took place years after the Obamas left the White House.

Trump has been attacked from all corners for selecting the Trump Doral resort in Miami to host next year’s G7 meeting. Trump reversed course after a huge outcry from both parties.

Hosting the G7 meeting at a Trump property would have raised questions about whether the decision violated the Emoluments Clause in the U.S. Constitution, which prohibits a president from receiving income from any source other than his government salary. Trump told reporters that the outcry is all due to the “phony Emoluments Clause.”  Trump denied trying to enrich himself using the G-7 hosting arrangements. He said that there were other instances of former presidents such as George Washington, who ran businesses while in office.
