Cohen Reportedly Tells Prosecutors Of Possible Irregularities In Insurance Claims By Trump Organization

The president’s former personal attorney Michael Cohen met last week with federal prosecutors providing them with notice on potential irregularities at the Trump Organization.

According to a report in The New York Times, Cohen spoke with prosecutors regarding a number of insurance claims the Trump family business filed throughout the years. Though there is no indication President Donald Trump was implicated in any of the accusations, it does suggest the Special Counsel’s investigation is interested in broader aspects beyond Cohen’s involvement in hush money payments made before the 2016 presidential election.

Cohen is soon to begin a three-year prison sentence for a series of charges ranging from tax fraud to lying to federal authorities. The new information, according to the report, may be a last-ditch effort by Cohen to get a reduced sentence. Which has already been pushed back from March 6 to May 6 after a U.S. district judge approved Cohen’s request Wednesday, citing a recent surgery.

So far, it is not known how serious federal prosecutors may be taking the new information.  The Trump Organization declined to comment for the story.

Prosecutors also questioned Cohen on conversations between himself and a political fundraiser, Imaad Zuberi, who once tried to hire the president’s former “fixer” as a consultant. Around the time of the president’s inauguration, Zuberi donated nearly $1 million to the inaugural committee.

An attorney for Cohen who spoke with reporters said that his client is “interested in cooperating with and assisting” authorities “in any way they believe is helpful.”
