Chris Christie Receives Donation From Jared Kushner’s Uncle, Murray Kushner

Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie has been running on an anti-Donald Trump platform since launching his campaign in June. Though it has taken him a few months, the former New Jersey governor is finally attracting voters and increasing his chances of going head-to-head with his nemesis.

Christie’s most recent filing with the Federal Election Commission shows that things may be looking up – among his supporters is Murray Kushner, uncle to Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. He and his wife each donated $3,300 to Christie’s campaign.

The Kushner family has a long history of supporting New Jersey politicians, although most have been Democrats. Christie helped put Charles Kushner, Jared Kushner’s father and Murray Kushner’s brother, in jail when he was the U.S. attorney for the state in 2005. Despite their convoluted history, Murray Kushner is now supporting Christie’s efforts to keep Trump out of office.

Other notable donors to Christie’s campaign include George Conway, husband to former-Trump White House senior counselor Kellyanne Conway, and Anthony Scaramucci, former communications director for Trump.

Though Christie is still significantly trailing Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Florida) in the polls, the recent filing suggests that his sharp criticism of the former president is resonating with voters; Trump’s recent string of legal woes has raised concerns over his possible presidential nomination.

The first Republican primary debate is scheduled for August 23. Christie was one of the first candidates to announce that he reached the fundraising threshold required to qualify.
