Capitol Police Officer Michael Fanone Speaks Out About Whitewashing Of Capitol Insurrection

Capitol Police Officer Michael Fanone was repeatedly tased, jabbed with a flagpole and beaten by rioters during the January 6 Capitol insurrection. Fanone suffered from both a heart attack and concussion during the insurrection and has further been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder. The officer recently gave an interview condemning efforts to whitewash the brutal riots.

“I experienced the most brutal, savage hand-to-hand combat of my entire life,” Fanone told CNN. “Let alone my policing career, which spans almost two decades. It was nothing that I had ever thought would be a part of my law enforcement career, nor was I prepared to experience. I want people to understand the significance of January 6. I want people to understand that thousands of rioters came to the Capitol hell-bent on violence and destruction and murder.”

Fanone’s comments come in the wake of efforts from former President Donald Trump and notable GOP lawmakers who have attempted to downplay the Capitol Insurrection. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wisconsin) has claimed during various interviews since the insurrection that he did not feel threatened by the insurrectionists, insurrectionists committed no violence on the Senate side of the Capitol building and that the insurrectionists were fake Trump supporters.
