California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) has announced the gun control version of the Texas abortion law, which allowed citizens to sue abortion providers directly.

California State Sen. Bob Hertzberg (D-Van Nuys) on Friday previewed new legislation that would allow Californians to sue gun makers and sellers of assault weapons.

In a press conference, Newsom said, “If Texas can use a law to ban a woman’s right to choose and put her health at risk, we will use that same law to save lives and improve the health and safety of the people in the state of California.”

Newsom even challenged the Supreme Court to strike the bill down. The legislation represents California’s continued fight for stricter gun control, which Newsom wants to be accepted nationally. Polls, however, show that California residents are more concerned about homelessness.
