Billionaire George Soros, an investor and philanthropist, is backing the Texas Majority PAC and Texas Democratic Party in hopes of turning the state blue for the 2026 midterm elections.
The two groups launched “Blue Texas” on Monday, an eight-figure campaign aimed at electing Democrats to state government positions. The organizations are hoping to assemble tens of thousands of volunteers to increase voter turnout and support for the Democrats.
“Blue Texas” will start with rallies in 12 counties in June, including Dallas and El Paso. In July, the campaign will make stops in over 24 cities.
Currently, Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) is seeking to maintain his position against Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton (R), who the Texas House impeached over corruption charges last year. Most polls indicate that Paxton is leading Cornyn in the primary. Some polls have shown a Democrat could be competitive against Paxton.

Democrats hope that former Rep. Colin Allred (D-Texas) will run for the seat. Allred was the Democratic candidate in the 2024 election, in which Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) ultimately won.
Texas Democrats believe that now is the perfect time for the Party to make gains in Texas. Texas Majority PAC Director Katherine Fischer stated that President Donald Trump’s reelection to the White House and the competitive U.S. Senate race could make it possible for the Democrats to gain ground in the midterm elections.
Fischer said the organization’s goal is to turn Texas into a battleground state in the long run.
Still, it will be an uphill climb for the Party. Texas Democrats haven’t controlled any level of state government since 1994. During the 2024 election, Democratic support decreased in the Rio Grande Valley, an area heavily populated by Hispanics.
