Bill Weld Would Have Indicted Trump For Obstruction Of Justice Had He Been Attorney General

Bill Weld, who aims to challenge President Donald Trump during the Republican primaries, said on Wednesday that if he were sitting as the Attorney General instead of William Barr, he would have tried to indict Trump on obstruction of justice.

Weld, a 73-year-old Republican and former Massachusetts governor, took to Twitter on Wednesday to deliver his two-tweet statement. In his first message, Weld accuses Barr of making a “clear attempt to frame a narrative that favors and protects the President.”

Weld continues in his second tweet, explaining how the evidence posited by Robert Mueller‘s report is convincing enough so that if he was the Attorney General, he “would have pursued an indictment of the President of the United States for obstruction of Justice.”

Earlier in the day, Weld insisted Mueller’s report outlined an effort on Trump’s part to obstruct justice on “multiple occasions.”

The special counsel’s probe concluded in March. Barr decided not to pursue an obstruction of justice case against Trump, instead issuing a four-page summary of Mueller’s report. On Tuesday, it was discovered that Mueller had sent Barr a letter three days after he released his summary, which Mueller claimed mischaracterized his findings.
