Biden Uses Arabic Word ‘Inshallah’ During Debate; Americans Muslims Applaud

American Muslims flocked to Twitter after Democratic nominee Joe Biden responded to President Donald Trump using an Arabic word during the first presidential debate on Tuesday night.

Moderator Chris Wallace had asked Trump for a statement regarding the recent New York Times report on his tax returns and whether or not the American public will ever have access to viewing them.

“I’ve paid millions of dollars,” Trump said, despite the Times reporting he paid only $750 in 2016 and 2017. “You’ll get to see it.”

“When?” Biden asked, adding “inshallah,” an Arabic word that means “God willing” and is intended to be used in a sarcastic manner. His campaign confirmed that this was the word Biden intended to use.

Biden’s statement received both praise and criticism on Twitter. Buzzfeed News reporter Hamed Aleaziz wrote that it was “a historic moment in America,” while journalist Tamer El-Ghobashy said it “was kinda colonial and derogatory.”

Trump has denied the report of his tax returns, claiming that it was “fake news.”
