With just over two months in office, President Joe Biden‘s high approval rating and sweeping reforms have already made him a strong candidate for a second term. Biden himself confirmed in a Thursday night press conference that he plans to run again in 2024.
“That is my expectation,” Biden said in his first solo press conference when asked if he would run for re-election. “I’m a great respecter of fate. I’ve never been able to plan four and a half, three and a half years ahead for certain,” Biden said, reminding reporters that he has held the office for less than one hundred days.
“Biden should definitely be preparing to run again,” Democratic strategist Jamal Simmons said in a statement. “It’s easier to stop the train than start it late, and a lame-duck president won’t get many things passed.”
When asked if Vice President Kamala Harris will join him on his 2024 ticket, Biden said, “I fully expect that to be the case,” commenting as well that, “She’s doing a great job. She’s a great partner.”
