In New Hampshire on Sunday, former Vice President Joe Biden jokingly insulted a voter, making a reference to a movie almost 50 years older than her. 

The 21-year-old voter at the event, Madison Moore, warned that her question might be rude and followed up with, “How do you explain the performance in Iowa, and why should voters believe that you can win the national election?” 

In response, Biden said, “Iowa’s a Caucus,” and asked Moore if she had been to a caucus. When she nodded her head ‘yes,’ he jokingly responded, “No, you haven’t. You’re a lying dog-faced pony soldier.” The audience erupted with laughter.

According to the Washington Post, Moore later said that she had not been trying to “push on wounds” or “humiliate anyone.” She also later admitted that she had never been to a caucus, but nodded anyways due to nerves. 

“In reality, it is totally irrelevant whether I’ve been to a caucus or not,” she said. “Joe Biden has been performing incredibly poorly in this race. His inability to answer a simple question from a nobody college student like me only exacerbates that reality.”
