President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris held their first joint campaign rally in Virginia on Tuesday, where they so focused on women’s reproductive rights, including access to legal and safe abortions, as a cornerstone of their 2024 campaign.
During the speech, which took place one day after the 52nd anniversary of Roe v. Wade, Biden and Harris took turns laying the blame of what Harris called “a health care crisis” squarely at the feet of Donald Trump and warned that if the Republicans take power, they will institute a national abortion ban.
Harris shamed Trump for saying he is “proud” of “terminating” Roe v Wade.
“Proud? Proud that women across our nation are suffering? Proud that women have been robbed of a fundamental freedom? How dare he?” she said.

The Biden campaign sees abortion access as a key issue in their battle against Trump, as polls indicate most Americans see safe and legal reproductive rights for women in a favorable light, despite Republicans’ push to outlaw it.
The campaign is setting up Harris as the face of this battle. She began a “reproductive rights tour” this week, with her first stop in the battleground state of Wisconsin.
As part of the administration’s attempt to communicate their strength on the position, they have announced several policies that will begin to expand access to contraception.
Jennifer Klein, director of the gender policy council at the White House, stated that “the number one priority for all of us [in the administration] is working to pass a federal law that will restore the protections that were lost when Roe was overturned.”
Twenty-four states have passed laws limiting access to abortions since Roe was overturned. However, in states where abortion has been on the ballot, most notably in Ohio and Kansas, voters stood on the side of upholding the right.
Trump has backpedaled slightly on his strict anti-abortion rhetoric, citing the need to “win elections” during a recent town hall.
