“History tells us that blind loyalty to a single leader, and the willingness to engage in political violence, is fatal to democracy,” the President said while speaking before Independence Hall. “There is no question that the Republican Party is dominated, driven and intimidated by Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans.”
“Too much of what’s happening in our country today is not normal,” Biden added.
Though historically, Democrats are expected to lose seats in November, the party is pointing to outrage over the right-leaning Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and ongoing investigations into Trump as momentum to encourage voters to vote blue.
“Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic,” he said. “MAGA forces are determined to take this country backward. Backward to an America where there is no right to choose, no right to privacy, no right to contraception, no right to marry who you love.”
Biden went on to emphasize equality and democracy – two of the foundational principles of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, which were both written at Independence Hall.
“As I stand here tonight, equality and democracy are under assault,” Biden added. “We do ourselves no favors to pretend otherwise.”
On the other side, Republicans are hammering high-level of inflation and the uncertainty of the economy as the main issues.
