Biden Administration Plans To Make Legal Immigration Easier

President Joe Biden is planning to make legal immigration easier.

According to a government draft acquired by The New York Times, titled “D.H.S. Plan to Restore Trust in Our Legal Immigration System,” the Biden administration plans to undo former President Donald Trump‘s efforts to limit immigration by making it more complex, costly and slower.

Plans described in the draft would encourage more people to move to the U.S, including refugees, victims of trafficking, asylum seekers, skilled workers, families of U.S. citizens living overseas and Canada-born Native Americans.

The document also revealed that the Biden administration is currently preparing to renew various programs in the immigration policy, including the H-1B visa program and U-visa program.

“There are significant changes that need to be made to really open up all avenues of legal immigration,” said Felicia Escobar Carrillo, the chief of staff at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, told The Times. “In the same way that they took a broad-stroke approach to closing off avenues, I think we want to take a broad approach toward opening up the legal avenues that have always been available but that they tried to put roadblocks up on.”
