Betsy DeVos’ Yacht Suffers $10,000 In Damages After Being Untied From Dock

A yacht owned by the family of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos suffered damage early Sunday in Ohio when it was untied from it’s dock and set adrift on Lake Erie.

Crew members aboard the Seaquest, one of 10 luxury yachts owned by the DeVos family, awoke early Sunday to find themselves drifting away from the dock, though a crew member was able to get in touch with police and regain control of the vessel it wasn’t before it had already scraped up against the dock causing an estimated $10,000 in damages.

Chief of Police Bob Lippert of the Huron Police Department said that it still remains unclear whether the assailant knew the yacht belonged to the education secretary or if it was just a randomly committed act, citing that it’s “quite possible that it was some random act by some late-night revelers,” since tourists seem to frequent the cities bars during the summer.

Though he did note that the arrival of the yacht made headlines in the Sandusky Register last week.

SLIDESHOW: DONALD TRUMP’S 30 CRAZIEST TWEETS

Before becoming education secretary, DeVos had dedicated 30 years to championing for charter and private schools across the country. Since assuming her role in the Trump Administration, however, she has worked on rolling back protections for teachers. Her positions have inspired protests from teachers unions, students and civil rights groups alike.

Upon a visit to a middle school in Washington D.C. in February DeVos was blocked from entering by a handful of student protesters, one of whom appeared to lay a hand on her prompting her to add protection by U.S. marshals.
