Beto O’Rourke Hospitalized With Infection

Beto O’Rourke (D), who is the Democratic nominee for governor of Texas, announced on Sunday that he is pausing his campaign after being hospitalized with a bacterial infection.

He was treated at the Methodist Hospital in San Antonio.

“While my symptoms have improved, I will be resting at home in El Paso in accordance with the doctors’ recommendations,” O’Rourke wrote in a statement on Twitter.

“I am sorry to have had to postpone events because of this, but promise to be back on the road with you as soon as I am able,” he added.

The Texas politician served as a U.S. representative for Texas’s 16th congressional district from 2013 to 2019 but became nationally known in 2018 as he ran for Sen. Ted Cruz‘s (R-Texas) seat. He then ran an unsuccessful bid for president in 2020.

O’Rouke will face off against current Gov. Greg Abbott (R) in the November midterm election, but he is currently trailing in the polls.
