Attorney General William Barr has told individuals at the White House that he is considering resigning over President Donald Trump’s tweets commenting on ongoing investigations he’s responsible for.
According to the Washington Post, personnel close to the president say he has no intentions of stopping sharing his comments on the Department of Justice. After the story broke, Justice Department spokeswoman Kerry Kupec tweeted on Tuesday night that the attorney general had no plans of resigning.
However, Barr recently told ABC News that he believed Trump’s commentary was making his job “impossible to do.”
The attorney general has reportedly pleaded with the president to stop tweeting in the weeks before the interview, but Trump shows no intentions of stopping. In a comment made to reporters Tuesday, the president praised the attorney general, saying, “I have total confidence in my attorney general,” adding, “I think he’s doing an excellent job. He’s a strong guy.” Trump did, however, acknowledge Barr’s sentiments. “I do make his job harder,” Trump said. “I do agree with that. I think that’s true.”
