Attorney General William Barr Denies He’s Acting As Trump’s Personal Attorney

Attorney General William Barr defended himself against Democratic accusations that he is acting as President Donald Trump‘s personal attorney.

“I act on behalf of the United States,” Barr told to Fox News.

Barr made the statement after the Justice Department’s Russian probe investigation transitioned from a management review to a criminal investigation. John Durham, the U.S. attorney for Connecticut, is overseeing the investigation and making progress with the FBI’s assistance.

Barr believes FBI Director Christopher Wray and his team have provided outstanding support to Durham. He also stated since Wray has taken over, bureau leadership and operations greatly improved.

Democratic House members accused Barr of acting as Trump’s personal attorney. In addition, they voiced concern about Barr’s ability to remain objective upon discovering the Trump-Ukraine calls involved Barr – Trump stated Barr and his personal attorney Rudy Giuliani would contact the Ukranian president. The promise prompted the whistleblower complaint, which is the cornerstone of the Democratic House’s impeachment inquiry.

Democratic Congress members are not alone in accusing Barr of acting in Trump’s best interest.

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-California) stated Sunday that Barr is “weaponizing the Justice Department to go after the president’s enemies.”

The Washington Post and New York Times also reported that Barr met with global leaders to receive assistance with the Durham investigation.

And on Oct. 24, Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-New York) and Schiff released a joint statement claiming the Justice Department “has lost its independence and become a vehicle for President Trump’s political revenge.”
