At 118, A Majority Of House Democrats Now Support Impeachment Of Donald Trump

A majority of House Democrats now say they would support an impeachment inquiry for President Donald Trump. The pressure will now be put on House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi on whether to proceed with an inquiry.

Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Rep. Eliot Engel (D-New York) said, “The president’s repeated abuses have brought American democracy to a perilous crossroads,” and that he now believes impeachment is they only route to justice.

Rep. Ted Deutch (D-Florida) the came out in support of impeachment bringing the number of Democrats in favor of it is now 118 out of 235. Deutch is one of a growing number of lawmakers who have announced their support of impeachment proceedings after former Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s testimony before the House last week.

Three other representatives are Mike Levin (D-California), Jennifer Wexton (D-Virginia) and Jason Crow (D-Colorado), all of whom one their seats by flipping Republican districts.

Trump’s repeated racist attacks on African-American lawmakers has only reinforced impeachment supporters feelings. Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) tweeted last Sunday that Trump’s attacks of Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Maryland) “make it evident that his bigotry is not going away.”

Pelosi’s fear of supporting impeachment proceedings stems from her worry if the House successfully votes for Impeachment, a Republican controlled Senate will likely acquit the President.

Knowing that Trump would use an unsuccessful impeachment in his reelection campaign, Pelosi has called for the House to investigate Trump’s financial records. The House Judiciary Committee currently is deciding whether or not it wants to bring Articles of Impeachment against the President.
