Amid Texas Governor’s Race Talk, Matthew McConaughey Releases Odd Video: America’s ‘Going Through Puberty!’

In a bizarre video, Matthew McConaughey said America was “going through puberty” and called for citizens to “keep maturing.”

In the video, McConaughey said; “Happy Birthday America. Yes indeed, as we celebrate our independence today, as we celebrate our birth as a nation today that kick-started our revolution to gain our sovereignty, let’s admit that this last year’s trip around the sun was also another head-scratcher.”

This video comes after McConaughey hinted at thought of running for governor in March. In a podcast, he said, “Because I do think I have some things to teach and share, and what is my role? What’s my category in my next chapter of life that I’m going into?”

Many news outlets have been polling his popularity against incumbent Gov. Greg Abbott (R), showing the actor in the lead.

The real question surrounding McConaughey is what party that actor would run under. In a recent podcast interview, McConaughey hinted at the possibility of running as an independent. “We’re all much more centrist than we’re led to believe we are,” McConaughey said. “We have the numbers… We’re running the ship. Now, there’s a couple of militia pirate groups that are coming over on the far right and the far left and we’re being told that they’re the absolute boogeyman and we better be scared… Let’s kick ’em off the boat. Don’t let ’em board.”

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) commented on the situation, calling McConaughey a “really formidable candidate.”
