A new poll published this week says that 51% of American voters think that Russian President Vladimir Putin has dirt on President Donald Trump.
By a 51-to-35% margin, U.S. voters are convinced the Russian government has “compromising information” about Trump, according to a Quinnipiac University National Poll. Among Republicans, an overwhelming majority — 70% — do not believe that the Kremlin has anything on Trump. Seventy-four percent of Democrats, 55% of Independents and 55% of women all say otherwise.

“We don’t have anything on them, and there can’t be anything on them,” Putin said in a Fox News interview that aired the night of the summit. “I don’t want to insult President Trump when I say this, and this may come off as rude, but before he announced that he would run for the presidency, he was of no interest for us.”
SLIDESHOW: DONALD TRUMP’S 30 CRAZIEST TWEETS
It’s been a week since the President’s highly criticized performance at the Helsinki summit and overall, voters deemed the summit a failure for the U.S., by a 52-to-27% margin. The Trump-Putin summit left 63% of American voters “very concerned” or “somewhat concerned” about Trump’s relationship with Russia, according to the Quinnipiac University Poll.
The new poll also showed a decline in Americans’ approval of Trump’s overall job performance. His approval now sits at 38%, compared with 58% disapproval. His approval rating fell five points from a June 20 Quinnipiac poll that followed the president’s summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
“Whether it is with love or not, President Donald Trump’s relationship with Russia has delivered a small blow to his already poor standing with the American people,” said Peter Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll. “Following his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, President Trump’s job approval is back below 40% again.”
