The only two Republicans running against President Donald Trump for the GOP presidential nomination have suggested that the 25th Amendment be used in order to remove him from office.
Former Gov. Bill Weld (R-Massachusetts) and the first to declare a bid for the GOP nomination, tweeted on Wednesday “This is the man who has the nuclear codes,” adding in a second tweet “is a clear and present danger—to our country, to the globe and to himself.”

Former Rep. Joe Walsh, who recently announced that he would challenge Trump told ABC, “We’ve never had a situation like this. You can’t believe a word he says … he’s nuts, he’s erratic, he’s cruel, he stokes bigotry.”
The 25th amendment was ratified four years after the assasination of President John F. Kennedy. It detailed the succession after a president is killed or resigns, and in some part the removal process.
The amendment says that in order to remove a sitting president, the vice president and the majority of Cabinet members must decide that the president is unfit for office.
Many Democrats have long called for the 25th Amendment to be invoked after some of the president’s most outrageous moments.
