Sen. Lindsey Graham Contradicts Past Comments Saying He’ll Vote For Trump’s Nominee To Replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Despite the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s last words, Senate Republicans have ignored her wishes to not fill her seat until after the election. Republicans have come under fire for hypocrisy given the similar situation but different decisions they made during the 2016 election year.

Democrats have quickly pointed out the hypocrisy in moving forward with confirming President Donald Trump‘s nominee when Republicans refused to consider Barack Obama‘s nominee, Merrick Garland, when Justice Antonin Scalia died in 2016.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) argued how this time around there is a Republican president and a GOP-held Senate. He explained blocking Garland as an “appropriate” choice because the Democrats held the White House while the GOP held Senate.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) once opposed the confirmation of Trump’s nominee and encouraged others to call him out if his position changed. However, Graham has now come out strongly in support of the move to replace Ginsburg immediately.

He tweeted, “Being lectured by Democrats about how to handle judicial nominations is like an arsonist advising the Fire Department.”

Graham also criticized Democrats over Brett Kavanaugh‘s confirmation, painting the current Supreme Court fight as payback.

“Democrats chose to set in motion rules changes to stack the court at the Circuit level and they chose to try to destroy Brett Kavanaugh’s life to keep the Supreme Court seat open. You reap what you sow,” he added.

Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) have said that a standard was set when the GOP refused to consider Garland and they will not vote on a nominee until after the election.
