Energy Secretary Rick Perry said in an interview on Fox News that President Donald Trump is the “chosen one” to rule and “to do great things.” Fox & Friends carried an excerpt from an interview where Perry refers to the Old Testament. He asserted, “God’s used imperfect people all through history. King David wasn’t perfect. Saul wasn’t perfect. Solomon wasn’t perfect.”

Perry, like other evangelical Christians, believes God decides government matters like election outcomes and who heads the government.

Earlier in 2019, Trump made a similar remark about the trade war with China. He said, “Somebody said this is Trump’s trade war. It’s not my trade war. This is a trade war that should have taken place a long time ago … Somebody had to do it. I am the chosen one.”

Perry added in his interview, “And I actually gave the president a little one-pager on those Old Testament Kings about a month ago and I shared it with him. I said, Mr. President, ‘I know there are people that say you said you were the chosen one. You were.’ If you are a believing Christian, you understand God’s plan for the people who rule and judge over us on this planet in our government.”

According to the Fox News National Correspondent Ed Henry, Perry also told him that he believed Barack Obama was the chosen one sent by God at that point in history to lead the U.S.

Perry has been implicated in the Ukraine scandal as one of Trump’s “three amigos” pushing for an investigation of Joe Biden.
