Coronavirus (COVID-19) is believed to have originated in a seafood market in Wuhan, China that reportedly sold both dead and live wildlife illegally. China first alerted the World Health Organization of unusual cases of pneumonia in Wuhan on December 31, leading researchers to believe the virus first appeared mid-December.
Where Did The Coronavirus Come From?
Most strains of coronaviruses are transmitted from animals to humans, such as in the case of the SARS outbreak in which the virus was passed from bat to civet cat to human. Chinese researchers said on Feb. 7 that the virus could have spread via illegally trafficked pangolins, a type of anteater that can serve as both food and medicine.
