Applause erupted at the U.N. General Assembly in New York City after the group adopted resolutions calling for an end to the war in Ukraine while rejecting a U.S. draft on Monday. The U.S. joined Russia and North Korea in voting against an E.U.-backed Ukrainian resolution that demanded an immediate withdrawal of Russian troops. The assembly then considered the U.S.-drafted resolution delivered by Trump-appointed U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Dorothy Shea, that did not blame Russia for the war. France then proposed three amendments, backed by multiple countries, which added that the conflict was the result of a “full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation.” The U.S. then abstained from voting on its own resolution after Europeans succeeded in amending it.
