U.S. and Russian officials met in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Tuesday to discuss an end to the war in Ukraine. Footage released by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs shows United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov, and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, among other officials, preparing to begin discussions. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce told reporters that the goal of the talks was to “determine if this is something that can move forward” regarding more substantive U.S.-mediated negotiations to end the war in Ukraine. On Monday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told German media that any agreements made without the involvement of Ukraine would be rejected. “[The US and Russia] certainly cannot negotiate about our people and our lives. About ending the war without us. We are an independent state,” Zelensky said. (Credit: Ministry of Foreign Affairs Russia via Storyful)
