Protesters were kicked out of the North Carolina Legislative Building on Monday, Dec. 2, after demonstrating against the Republican vote to override the veto of a bill that would shift executive power within the state government.

Footage filmed and posted to Instagram by Democracy North Carolina shows security officers directing people to exit the Legislative Building, where the North Carolina Senate had just voted to override the veto of Senate Bill 382, on Monday.

“We will not let our ELECTED leaders silence the voices of North Carolinians and ram this awful bill through,” read the post.

The bill calls for some Hurricane Helene relief but is mostly about “policy and taking power away from the next governor, who will also be a Democrat.” North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper (D) vetoed the bill last week, calling it a “sham.”

A full override of the bill is still pending a vote, which is not expected until sometime next week.
