Only 23% Of Americans Strongly Trust Trump’s Information About Coronavirus

Few Americans trust the information spewed by President Donald Trump during his daily coronavirus task force briefings, though his overall ratings remain consistent.

A recent poll from the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research found that only 28% of Americans are regularly getting coronavirus news from Trump. Of that, only 23% said they have high levels of trust in what the president, while 21% said they trust him a moderate amount.

There is a large disparity between Republicans and Democrats regarding confidence in Trump’s information.

About half of Republicans said they have a lot of trust in Trump’s coronavirus information and 22% said they have little or no trust in what he says about the virus. In comparison, 84% of Democrats said they have little to no trust in the information Trump is providing.

Despite questions about the credibility of the information Trump is passing on during his coronavirus briefings, his Republican supporters remain loyal. The vast majority (82%) of Republicans said they still approve of how he is doing overall, while only 11% of Democrats said they approve of Trump’s job as president.

His overall approval rating remains at 42%, where it has hovered for several months.

Despite the partisan gap, the majority of Americans agree that Trump should listen better to health experts as he responds to the coronavirus pandemic.

Sixty percent said they wish he would listen more to experts, and nearly all Americans (80%) said they supported stay-at-home measures designed to slow the spread of the virus — restrictions that Trump has been eager to lift.
