Former President Barack Obama would beat President Donald Trump in a head-to-head matchup, according to a hypothetical poll released Wednesday.

The poll found that if a presidential election was held today and the only candidates were the two immediate past presidents, 54% would vote for Obama and 43% would vote for Trump. Only 3% said they were undecided.

The left-leaning firm Public Policy Polling (PPP) was commissioned by Eric Schmeltzer, a progressive public relations consultant, to conduct the survey.

The poll surveyed slightly more Democrats (41%) than Republicans (36%). The other 23% self-identified as Independent.
