Joe Biden Widens Lead To 15% Ahead Of Trump, New Poll Finds

Former Vice President Joe Biden has expanded his lead over President Donald Trump to 15 points, according to the latest Washington Post/ABC News poll.

The survey, released Sunday, found that 55% of registered voters would cast their ballot for Biden while only 40% would vote for Trump, if the general election were held today. A similar poll in March showed Biden leading by only two points in March.

The notable drop comes amid the coronavirus pandemic, which has caused physical and financial hardships nationwide.

The majority of respondents (60%) disapproved of Trump’s approach to the virus outbreak, with 52& strongly disapproving. Only 38% said they approved.

The recent events have likewise caused the president’s approval rating to tumble to 39%, with 57% saying they disapprove of his handling of the presidency. In contrast, those numbers sat at 48% approval and 46% disapproval in March.

Biden polled better than Trump nearly across the board, except for on handling the economy, on which he had 50% approval. The presumptive Democratic nominee received higher marks on handling the pandemic, crime and race relations.

The poll was conducted July 12-15 and surveyed 1,006 people, including 845 registered voters. The margin of error is +/-3.5% for the full survey and +/-4% for the registered voter sample.
