President Joe Biden has posted the second-lowest approval rating for a president at the year mark, coming in at 41%, according to CNN’s Poll of Polls. The lowest was President Donald Trump, who got a 40% approval rate after his first year in office.
While Biden’s numbers are quite poor, history proves that a below 50% ranking can still lead to reelection. The two other presidents who fell below 50%, Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama, won two terms.
Biden’s numbers look very similar to Trump’s numbers at one year, with the Republican and Democrat approval ratings switched. According to the poll, most Democrats are still supportive of Biden. He earned 82% approval from the left side, which is around the same support Trump had from Republicans at the end of his first year. Only around 12% of Republicans were happy with Biden’s time in office, which is also parallel to Trump’s approval with the Democrats after a year.
“The last four presidential years – Trump’s second through fourth and Biden’s first – are the four most polarized in Gallup’s polling history,” said Gallup polling.

The low approval numbers are a result of a mixture of things. Biden is facing a country with a worse political environment than any President, except for President Jimmy Carter. Polls show Americans want Biden to focus more on crime, inflation and the supply chain.
