Biden Gets 59% Approval Rating, Strong Support For Infrastructure Bill In New Poll

In a new poll from POLITICO/Morning Consult of 1,992 registered American voters, President Joe Biden maintains a 59% approval rating on the precipice of his 100th day in office. Those polled also showed general support for Biden’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic as well as his broad new infrastructure bill, The American Jobs Plan.

The poll found that 63% of Americans approve of Joe Biden’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic to various levels while only 29% showed varying levels of disapproval. The poll’s results come in the wake of the passage of American Rescue Plan COVID-19 stimulus bill which POLITICO/Morning Consult also found had bipartisan support.

“The broad-based, bipartisan support for stimulus checks is evidence of the broad awareness that many Americans need a lifeline right now,” economist for Morning Consult John Leer said in March with the poll’s release. “It’s no surprise the extension of unemployment benefits is also extremely popular: Americans acknowledge unemployed workers deserve additional financial support until job growth resumes.”

Biden’s new infrastructure bill, the American Jobs Plan, also shows bipartisan support, despite GOP lawmakers’ disapproval. To varying levels of satisfaction, 70% of those polled agreed that public schools constitute infrastructure as well as 68% who agreed that Internet also constitutes infrastructure.

The $2.25 trillion plan will be executed in four parts over eight years, dedicating several billion dollars to initiatives from health care to the environment. The largest set sum is $650 billion dedicated to widening Americans’ access to clean water and cheap broadband Internet. Another $620 billion is set aside for transportation, more than doubling past investments into public transit. $174 billion will be directed to electric vehicle initiatives. $580 billion will be dedicated to strengthening United States manufacturing and then several other parcels are put aside for specific industries like $50 for semiconductor manufacturing and another $40 billion to increase domestic research. As for raw infrastructure, a record $20 billion is being set aside for new highways and roads to “reconnect,” according to Biden, neighborhoods that have been cut off from industry.
