The majority of Americans agree that former President Donald Trump should be charged for his role in last year’s January 6 Capitol riot, according to a new ABC News/Ipsos poll.

In the first poll since the beginning of the public hearings held by the House select committee that has been investigating the Capitol attack for the past 11 months, 58% of responders said that Trump should be criminally charged. The poll was conducted on June 17 and 18.

The same poll found in April that 52% thought that Trump should be charged, representing a 6% increase in the past two months.

Fifty-eight percent also believe that Trump is responsible for the breach on the Capitol while Vice President Mike Pence was presiding over the certification of electoral college votes in a joint session of Congress; however, just 34% of responders said they were following the January 6 committee’s hearings very or somewhat closely.
