Trump condemns NFL national anthem protests (Oct. 18, 2017)
In October, following a wave of national anthem protests by NFL players that included kneeling or sitting, Trump said the athletes — who were following Colin Kaepernick’s (pictured here) lead — were “disrespecting” our flag and anthem.
He also said at a rally in Alabama that if he was a coach or manager in the NFL and he saw players engaging in this behavior, that he would say “Get that son of a b—- off the field. You’re fired!”
Some NFL team owners, like the Dallas Cowboys’ Jerry Jones, switched their initial stance to agree with Trump and threaten to dismiss any player who engages in such a protest.
